    Employee Relations & Culture Associate II

    Job Purpose:

    Reporting to the Head of ER, EX & Culture, the role is responsible for supporting the design and delivery of people practices that promote a fair, inclusive, and engaging workplace. This includes strengthening positive employee relations, ensuring legal compliance, driving employee engagement, and contributing to a values-based culture.

    The role works closely with managers, employee representatives, and internal partners to implement initiatives that reflect employee feedback and best practices. It also supports flagship programs such as Britam Communities, Mancave, She Thrives, Men of Purpose and Women in Leadership to drive a thriving and high-performance culture.

    Key responsibilities:

    Employee Relations

    • Support the development, interpretation, and communication of HR policies in line with Kenyan Labor Laws and company values.
    • Handle employee relations matters including disciplinary cases, grievance procedures, workplace conduct issues and appeals.
    • Maintain accurate documentation of ER issues in collaboration with HR Business Partners and line managers.
    • Support organizational change initiatives (e.g., restructures) while maintaining employee engagement and compliance.
    • Provide guidance to managers on fair and effective handling of employee issues.
    • Participate in disciplinary hearings as part of the panel and ensure adherence to procedural fairness and documentation requirements.
    • Manage relationships with employee representatives and workplace committees, promoting open communication, trust, and collaboration to support a positive working environment.
    • Attend staff forums as an HR liaison to facilitate two-way communication.
    • Raise and track ERP requisitions for department expenses, vendor payments, and other administrative needs.
    • Maintain up-to-date disciplinary records by managing the ER tracker and ensuring accurate documentation is available when needed.
    • Contribute to regular updates of the HR Manual, ensuring alignment with employment legislation and evolving workplace needs.
    • Develop content for internal communications, including newsletters and employee updates, especially around welfare and policy changes.

    Employee Experience & Culture

    • Lead the execution of the company’s Wellness Program, including full coordination of wellness activities in line with the Wellness Calendar, liaising with wellness vendors and partners, scheduling sessions, and ensuring staff participation and timely communication.
    • Play an active role in supporting key inclusion and engagement initiatives such as She Thrives, Mancave, Men of Purpose, Women in Leadership and similar forums by coordinating logistics, communications, and gathering feedback for continuous improvement.
    • Support planning and execution of employee engagement events and experiences including TGIFs, End of Year Party, staff townhalls, roadshows, and other moments that foster connection, fun, and belonging.
    • Support the development and deployment of employee engagement surveys and experience mapping across key stages of the employee journey.
    • Collaborate with Brand, Internal Communications, and PR teams to elevate employer branding through storytelling, visibility campaigns, and engagement reporting.
    • Co-create and drive employee recognition initiatives at company and departmental levels, including annual awards and peer-nominated recognitions.
    • Prepare engaging content and messaging to communicate employee welfare programs, policy awareness, and engagement activities.
    • In collaboration with HR Business Partners, gather and analyze exit interview data, identify trends, and recommend actions to enhance retention and engagement.
    • Deliver on performance requirements as defined in the departments’ strategy map, balanced scorecard and Personal Scorecard.

    Knowledge, experience and qualifications required:

    • Bachelor’s degree in human resource management, Business Administration, or a related field.
    • Diploma in Human Resource Management is required; CHRP certification is an added advantage.
    • 2–4 years of HR generalist experience, with a strong focus on employee relations and engagement.
    • Solid knowledge of Kenyan Employment Act and Labor Laws.
    • Experience in handling disciplinary cases and coordinating with employee representatives or unions.
    • Demonstrated ability to support or lead employee engagement, recognition, and wellness initiatives.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to manage sensitive issues with professionalism.
    • Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel, PowerPoint) and strong attention to detail.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and deliver quality outcomes.
