Senior Engineering Manager - Channels (Messaging) at Cellulant Corporation

JOB DESCRIPTION: 

We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to join our product teams in scaling our payments products in Africa. As the Engineering Manager, you lead a cross-functional team of developers, QA, and Application Security Engineers that owns the design, development, and operations for mission-critical applications of the payments business.

The ideal candidate would have solid systems design competencies and experience in building channels(APIs, Messaging, and Chat products preferred).

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The role holder would be required to: 

• Delivering complete features and maintaining existing ones. 
• Mentor, manage and grow a team of 10+ engineers working across the stack throughout the software development lifecycle
• Drive execution of the product roadmap provides leadership in an innovative and fast-paced environment
• Take responsibility for the overall planning, execution, and success of the roadmap.
• Establish solid use of agile practices and excellent development processes; champion engineering and operational excellence, establishing metrics and processes for regular assessment and improvement
• Set clear expectations and create a positive work environment based on accountability
• Work on strategy and help set direction while actively managing day-to-day software development
• Partner with Product management for prioritising and delivering customer value in a rapidly evolving environment
• Lead effectively through outcomes rather than tasks

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

Must have experience:

• 5+ years of experience developing and shipping software products and/or services.
• 2-4 years as team lead or manager of a cross-functional engineering team.
• Hands-on solid systems design competencies and experience building channels(APIs, Messaging, and Chat products preferred)
• Proven experience leading technical projects and delivering on ambitious goals.
• Deep knowledge of engineering processes, the underlying principles, and tradeoffs.
• Fluency in one or more general-purpose programming languages including but not limited to: Python, Java, C#.
• Experience designing distributed systems for cloud-based micro-services architecture.
• Experience working in a mature DevOps, SRE, or Modern Engineering organisation supporting internet/hyper-scale services
• Proven software architecture experience.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Software Engineering, Computer Science or related field

• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with all levels of engineers and other disciplines.
