    Agribusiness Team Lead

    The Company

    The Government of Kenya has adopted four priority areas to spur economic growth, create employment and transform the livelihoods of the citizens over a five-year period up to 2022. The four development priorities christened as the Big Four Agenda are Food Security, Manufacturing, Universal Healthcare and Affordable Housing especially for the Urban Poor.
    Our Client is a government department that intends to play a key role in the implementation of the Big Four Agenda through direct interventions in the priority areas as well as leveraging its mandate to facilitate and enable state and non-state actors to achieve these priorities.     Roles & Responsibilities

    Job purpose and responsibilities:

    Team Lead Agribusiness will be a technical expert playing a direct role in increased agricultural productivity, and will be responsible for all activities related to the strengthening and expansion of agribusiness activities in the five key value chains identified (Rice, Maize, Cotton, Sugarcane and Grapes)

    Key responsibilities:

    • Develop Stakeholder partnership framework for developing agri-business investments to promote the agricultural value chains;
    • Design a clear strategy for attracting agri-business investments to ensure that adequate level and balance of private and public investments are in place to drive the establishment of agribusiness activities;
    • Conduct a situational analysis with a focus of identifying opportunities and risks, and draw lessons from past government agribusiness initiatives;
    • Advise on stakeholder identification and develop strategies that defines Our Client’s roles and that of partners in agribusiness sector.
    • Lead the development of sustainable agribusiness and trade strategies that identify key local and regional market opportunities for Our Client to achieve their commercialization agenda.
    • Provide overall technical support in a wide variety of areas, including value chain development and upgrading strategies, improving access to agricultural inputs, agricultural extension, marketing, and distribution.
    • Facilitate market driven linkages between agribusiness producers, wholesalers, processors, markets and other stakeholders within Kenya.
    • Take lead in the preparation of agribusiness value chain reviews, preparation of annual reports, dissemination of reports detailing the impact and results of activities.
    • Contribute directly to strategic planning, performance monitoring and reporting of agribusiness activities, reviewing work plans and quarterly/annual reports, preparing monitoring reports;

    Requirements

    Key qualifications and experience:

    • Master’s degree in agriculture, agribusiness, agricultural economics, or other related field from a recognised university.
    • Minimum of (12) years of professional work experience in agribusiness development with an emphasis on at least two of the identified value chains. Experience working on similar government agricultural/agribusiness development programs, including contributing to M&E, reporting, and designing and leading program activities is desirable.
    • Remarkable record of accomplishment in developing and executing strategies plans and initiatives on agriculture development/transformation with particular emphasis on agribusiness, agro-processing enhancement and food security that create employment and generate income.
    • Experience leading and building the capacity of teams of agriculture-focused staff, including remote, field-based staff, to meet program needs and deliverables.

    Agribusiness Technical Experts will lead the identification and development of market opportunities for the produce in the identified value chains (Rice, Maize, Cotton, Sugarcane and Grapes). This includes supporting the Agronomy team in agribusiness development and marketing. They will ensure that agribusiness and marketing activities lead to the realization of project outputs and contribute to the commercialization agenda of Our Client, and ultimately in contributing to the achievement objectives of the Big Four Agenda.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Work closely with the Lead Agribusiness Specialist to develop a market systems approach to support the five value chains (Rice, Maize, Cotton, Sugarcane and Grapes);
    • Develop and maintain a database of the key stakeholders and identify synergies that can further the programs’ objectives;
    • Support the development of sustainable agribusiness and trade strategies that identify key local and regional market opportunities for Our Client to achieve their commercialization agenda;
    • Work with the Team Lead Agribusiness to facilitate market driven linkages between agribusiness producers, wholesalers, processors, markets and other stakeholders within Kenya;
    • Identify key progress indicators, and undertake field monitoring and data collection for reporting on progress of activities;

    Key qualifications and experience:

    Roles & Responsibilities

    Job purpose and responsibilities:

    Agronomy Technical Experts will liaise with relevant stakeholders to procure relevant data and ensure that the information collected is accurate and applicable to the program. They will be responsible for advising the program accordingly on matters related to crop breeding for the identified value chain crops (Rice, Maize, Cotton, Sugarcane and Grapes). They will also be involved in testing the fertility of the soil and advising the program on suitable crop varieties and breeding practices necessary for optimum production of the respective value-chain crops.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Identify and advice the program on suitable farm inputs, layout, infrastructure and fixed assets necessary for the respective end-to-end farm lifecycle of the respective value chain crops;
    • Liaise with the relevant stakeholders for soil testing activities and selection of best-suited seeds and input for the area in which the farms are located;
    • Evaluate and interpret soils and soil-related data in order to understand the soil resources in the farms and their contribution to agricultural production, soil improvement as well as how they affect environmental quality;
    • Lead in production planning and scheduling of farming activities for the different crops, including providing guidance on appropriate timing, specific nature of activity, tools and inputs;
    • Work collaboratively with the finance and procurement teams in developing budgets, cash flow forecasting and procurement of inputs.
    • Work closely with Agribusiness teams in demand forecasting and understanding of market requirements
    • Spearhead the cultivation and growth of respective value chain crops according to the recommended practice;
    • Advise the program on compliance with current legislation and government regulation for food safety and environmental management within the farms and in the identified markets;
    • Lead in collaboration with external government and non-governmental agencies involved in research and regulation of various agricultural crops and practices to improve the potential of the client farms;
    • Seek to continuously apply modern farming methods and application of innovations and technology in the production at the farm level.
    • Seek to maximize the yield and profitability of the farms.
    • Lead in the supervision, coordination, training and capacity building of the client’s operations team at the farm level.

    Requirements

    Key qualifications and experience:

    • Master’s degree in agronomy, soil/earth sciences, agriculture, horticulture, crop/plant science or related discipline from a recognised university.

    Requirements

    Key responsibilities:

    • Conduct engineering site audits to collect structural, electrical, and related site information for use in the design of commercial solar power systems.

    Job Purpose and Responsibilities

    The Solid Waste Management and Recycling Expert will play a direct role in designing and implementing Solid Waste Management and Recycling interventions in collaboration with select county governments. They will provide technical leadership in designing and implementing a framework for a Solid Waste Management and Recycling project that will enable Our Client utilize the resources available to achieve its commercialization agenda and contribute to the achievement of clean and sustainable urban areas.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Conduct a rapid Solid Waste Management Situation Analysis, including a review of past solid waste activities as well as past studies and draw lessons;
    • Spearhead the development and design of appropriate business models in waste management, including areas for direct implementation and those for outsourcing, and links with the market.
    • Define and scope solid waste management intervention within urban areas, including designing clear terms of reference that outline the specific roles to be played by Our Client and those to be played by the relevant urban management departments.
    • Designing technical solutions which include appropriate solid waste management technologies, choice of waste and products to be recycled, and selection of business and technical partners where necessary.
    • Design a Stakeholder engagement framework and support actors’ coordination and consultations for project ownership and buy-in.

    Requirements

    Key qualifications and experience:

    • Master’s degree in in Urban Environment, Urban Planning, Development Studies or relevant field, from a recognized university.
    • Minimum of 10 years of professional work experience in urban development, including management of urban projects and commercialization of urban services, preferably in Waste

    Job purpose and responsibilities:

    The Textiles Marketing Expert will develop and execute appropriate marketing and sales strategies to grow sales and markets for garments produced at Our Clients production factory by driving resources to attain agreed upon sales and profitability targets. They will provide technical leadership to the program to improve Our Clients’ commercial enterprise by increasing the capacity of its textile production factory to stitch uniforms and expand the market for garments and apparels.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Identify potential customers in the domestic market based on market intelligence, study the size and characteristics of the market, and assess the competitive, economic, social and political forces affecting the textiles market and relevant to the program.
    • Plan and coordinate the execution of marketing and sale strategies for apparel and garments produced at Our Client’s’ textile factory.
    • Oversee and execute sales and marketing infrastructure and processes to access and study all possible enquiries floated in the market.
    • Be responsible for management of the commercial aspects of monitoring orders to track customer demands and sales stocks to ensure they are supplied.
    • Coordinate with the Textiles Operations Expert to review/recommend/suggest pricing of various products depending on the cost of the product, value and quantity of the purchase.
    • Execute marketing channel strategies and mix, and manage the relationships with key clients and channel partners to drive profitability and growth.

    Requirements

    Key qualifications and experience:

    Roles & Responsibilities

    Job purpose and responsibilities:

    Textiles Operations Expert will ensure effective management of the textiles and apparels production line, warehousing and dispatch departments to deliver best in class products. They will also ensure increased capacity in garment production specifically targeted at meeting the quality and quantity requirements of various clients.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Develop and execute effective and efficient operations strategy in line with the business objectives of the program.
    • Prepare production schedules and work plan to meet the production demands of the client.
    • Advice the program on input requirements for raw materials, machinery and equipment necessary for efficient production.
    • Plan and manage the operations budget ensuring identification of all required inputs and appropriate output projection and tracking to ensure the production line is operating optimally.
    • Schedule and allocate adequate resources for the production of all regular orders to allow efficient execution of business operations.
    • Be responsible for the design and implementation of operational policies and guidelines, including factory safety procedures and regulation.
    • Review and advice the program on equipment procurement and repair needs and requirements to ensure minimal downtime due to equipment malfunction.

    Requirements

    Key qualifications and experience:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Business Administration, Textile Production, Textile Engineering or other related discipline from a recognized university.
    • Minimum of 7 years of professional work experience in a leadership operations role.
    • Professional qualification in accounting or related profession is highly desirable.
    • Experience preparing reports and analysis to support management decisions.
    • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including demonstrated advanced ICT skills.
