    Marketing Director - Makini

    Responsibilities:

    Output 1 – Brand Marketing Strategy:

     

    • Develop and implement a brand marketing strategy
    • Develop and implement a marketing and communications, media and advertising strategy annually, aligned with the brand strategy
    • Prepare budget plan, annually and monitors and controls expenditure against it
    • Compile and update the Brand CI Manual and oversees its implementation, as appropriate
    • Participate in on-boarding and/or due diligence for new schools including developing communication strategies for acquisitions
    • Provide marketing training/education for Principals, Administrators and Enrolment Officers, as necessary

    Output 2 – Brand Sales Strategy:

    • Develop and implement a sales strategy for the brand 
    • Set sales targets as agreed with Regional Managing Director and Principals communicate these to Admissions staff and School Marketers
    • Devise plans to achieve sales targets, monitor these and follow up where performance is lagging
    • Track leads identified and conversion rates. Gather information regarding students that enquire but enrol elsewhere
    • Ensure applications are received and processed timeously
    • Manage and oversee implementation of Sales module of STASY
    • Arrange for sales training of School Marketers and Admissions staff, as required

    Output 3 – Relationship Management:

    • Meet with and maintain cordial and productive relations with relevant stakeholders viz. community newspapers, owners of estates etc.
    • Establish and maintain an up-to-date database of student/parent leads
    • Establish potential feeder schools and build relationships with them to promote enrollment
    • Maintain sound relations with staff at Schools Marketing hub. For provision of PR, Graphic Design, Website and Digital Marketing services to the brand and ensure timeous delivery of quality services
    • Build and maintain relationships with all schools within the brand and their Principals to ensure effective communication and information flow
    • Establish a network of relevant suppliers to provide the services necessary at the required quality standards
    • Develop and implement a strategy to manage and enhance alumni relations
    • Oversee marketing sponsorships in the Schools

    Output 4 - Market Research & Intelligence:

    1. Monitor competitor activity and initiatives and keep Regional Managing Director appraised
    2. Undertake competitor analysis, as required and communicate insights to Brand MD and/or Principals
    3. Analyse market and consumer trends and incorporate information into marketing plans
    4. Monitor and assess customer satisfaction and incorporate information into marketing and sales plans/initiatives
    5. Responsible for editorial direction, design, production, and distribution of all school publications

    Output 5 - Management of Promotions, Events & Collateral:

    • Plan and manage exhibitions and functions
    • Make recommendations regarding collateral, source same and ensure timeous delivery thereof as well as its distribution
    • Create content for Brand marketing material and sources and manage inputs from suppliers
    • Manage compilation, printing and distribution of Brand consumer magazine
    • Oversee branding of school signage, bus branding, gazebos etc.

    Educational Psychologist

    Responsibilities:

    Duties are performed in accordance with standards of professional practice as outlined by the Kenya Psychological Association (KPsyA) code of ethics and the Mental Health (Amendment) Bill (Senate Bill No. 32 of 2018)

    • Provide individual, group and family therapy sessions for students
    • Conduct psychological assessments and interpret results for students
    • Lead crisis intervention efforts and provide insight into the development of functional assessments and behaviour intervention plans
    • Integrate psychological services into the classroom environment as appropriate through the appropriate lessons and teaching platforms
    • Provide assistance to staff in the design and implementation of appropriate interventions and accommodations for students
    • Contribute to program development that furthers the integration of social, coping, and problem solving in the classroom
    • Provide support services to parents/guardians as needed
    • Coordinate and/or collaborate with a range of individuals/agencies to promote and provide comprehensive services to students and families

    General Manager: Special Development Projects (Secondment)

    Overall Purpose of the Job:

     The role has two areas of focus and responsibility: 

    • Identifies expansion opportunities in East Africa for the ADvTECH Group in collaboration with the Regional MD, and drives the subsequent building and establishing of new schools for the Makini and Crawford International Schools (CIS) brands, and
    • Establishment of schools for the Makini brand as they are opened (2023 – Ridgeways) as the de facto Executive Head, ensuring the quality of built infrastructure and once opened, providing leadership to the academic and non-academic staff and the implementation of policies, procedures and systems aligned to the ADvTECH Group

     Responsibilities:

    Output 1 - Special Projects:

    • Investigates market opportunities for the establishment of new schools in East Africa
    • Drives expansion projects for Makini and CIS brands in line with the Region’s strategic objectives
    • Ensures each project is aligned to the development plan and is managed accordingly with targets being achieved in terms of buildings, staff, enrolment etc.
    • Maintains a close relationship with Property Division as the person on the ground, to ensure effective delivery of building projects for CIS and Makini (Statehouse & Ridgeways in 2023
    • Develops policies, procedures and systems to be implemented across schools to ensure standardisation and consistent best practice

     Output 2 – School Management: 

    • As programme manager manages and oversees the built infrastructure/renovations to existing buildings to ensure delivery in terms of deadlines, quality and budget
    • Establishes the day to day running of each new school opened as Executive Head/Principal
    • Ensures successor is identified and mentored once new operations are stablised for each school opened
    • Develops and implements procedures and systems ensuring standardisation and consistency across schools
    • Ensures the implementation and subsequent maintenance of Mikini Schools ’academic standards, ethos, values and culture in each school opened
    • Liaises with the Central Academic Team to keep abreast of future-focused educational trends and ensures the curriculum is implemented in such a way as to inspire and engage the Learner
    • Ensures that academic standards are set and measured and any corrective action taken where required
    • Leads the timetabling process to ensure each school is right-sized and at optimal productivity 

     Output 3 - Human Capital Management:

    • Leads, motivates and manages Academic and non-Academic staff in the achievement of set school objectives and targets by ensuring that the school has a high-performance culture
    • Ensure a clear sense of purpose and shared culture across the brand where employees are valued, empowered, respected and take accountability for their school
    • Manages and conducts performance reviews in accordance with policies and procedures and takes corrective action where necessary
    • Ensures that a management succession plan is implemented
    • Takes guidance from the HR on serious IR matters
    • Mentors successor to ensure continuity
    • Ensures identification of critical skills essential for sustainability of service delivery and the development of succession plans 
    • Recruitment of staff together with HR

    Output 4 - Finance Management: 

    • Sets and manages the consolidated operational budget and drives cost containment in key areas
    • Ensures the effective management of debt collection and processes for suspension of students where accounts are in arrears. Monitors the age analysis
    • Signs off all quotes, CAPEX requisitions, and fee credits within budget and/or limits of authority
    • Ensures accurate reporting, including ongoing financial analysis and risk assessment through the finance department
    • Taking guidance from the Finance Manager, employs sound financial practices to enhance the profitability and growth of the school in a responsible manner

     Output 5 - Facilities Management: 

    • Acts as the ultimate accountable person for the identification and mitigation of key risks and hazards, and for the physical safety of everyone on the campus – students, staff and visitors
    • Ensures that the brand is compliant with local Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental legislation and lead change where required
    • Ensures the management of common facilities service providers are regularly reviewed, and contribute to the vendor selection process by offering key operational insights from the school operations

    Education

    Minimum:

    • Post Graduate Degree in Education / Business Management

    Ideal:

    • Post Graduate qualification combining Education and Business Management and/or Project Management

    Experience in: 

    • As programme manager, manages projects in the education/service industry including related cost and time deliverables and external stakeholder relationships

    Deputy Principal : Makini Cambridge

    Output 1 – Academic Influence:

    • To assist the Principal in implementation of the school curriculum as per Makini Standards and International standards as prescribed by Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE)
    • To Work with the Principal to secure and sustain effective teaching and learning throughout the school and to monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and standards of students’ achievement, using benchmarks and setting targets for improvement
    • To Ensure all students receive good quality education through a programme designed to promote a stimulating style of learning in a safe and secure school environment
    • To co-ordinate and execute assessments and examinations in line with Makini and CAIE regulations and standards across all School levels

    • In consultation with the Principal, to evaluate and approve development and orders for teaching and learning resources, Teaching and Learning Files and their utilisation

    • To lead in the interpretation and analysis of data derived from diverse assessments and examinations and develop academic records for reference by stake holders

    • To manage and organize the school’s environment efficiently to ensure that it meets the needs of the curriculum as well as health and safety regulations

     Output 5 – Accountability:

    • You will be accountable to the Principal by ensuring that students enjoy and benefit from high quality education, promoting collective responsibility and entire community as a whole
    • Assist the Principal develop a school ethos which enables everyone to work collaboratively, share knowledge and understanding, celebrate success and accept responsibility for outcomes
    • Assist the Principal facilitate the performance appraisals for the teaching staff in line with the school’s guidelines

     Output 6 – Safeguarding & Protection of Children:

    • Assist the Principal in ensuring all policies and procedures adopted by the Management are fully implemented and followed by all staff in adherence to National and International laws that govern Child Protection

    Facilities Supervisor

    Responsibilities:

    •  To oversee and agreeing contracts and providers for services including, but not limited to security, cleaning, catering, classrooms etc.
    • To supervise multi-skilled craftsmen of staff including electricians
    • To ensure that basic facilities, such as water is well-maintained
    • To manage budgets and ensuring cost-effectiveness within the school’s operations
    • To ensure that facilities meet government regulations and environmental, health and security standards
    • Advising businesses on increasing energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness
    • To be responsible for the overall security arrangements of the premises including ensuring that staff are aware of the procedures on security and the use of alarm systems
    • To ensure the standards of cleanliness are high, and that the cleaning contract is value for money
    • To draw up maintenance schedules and set routine programmes of work for maintenance staff to ensure consistently high standards of hygiene, cleanliness, upkeep and safety of all school buildings and premises
    • To be responsible for the upkeep of playing fields, gardens, all weather surfaces and to ensure the maintenance of boundaries, footpaths, roads, and rights of way within the school premises
    • To ensure that all statutory elements of health and safety are implemented and undertaking responsibility for monitoring first aid and emergency supplies

    Overall purpose of the job:

    •  To provide effective leadership that will create a learning environment at Makini that will enable each learner to realize their maximum potential

    • To implement and sustain effective systems for the management of staff performance, incorporating appraisal and targets for teachers, including targets relating to learners’ achievement 
    • To coordinate the provision of the necessary tools and materials required by staff for efficient performance of their duties

     Output 7 – Teaching Guides:

    • To initiate teacher’s preparations of schemes of work and development of appropriate instructional materials
    • To check periodically pupils’ exercise books, projects, and practical work, assignments and continuous assessment scripts to ensure regular marking and systematic use in guiding learning 
    • To select and use a range of different learning resources and equipment 
    • To research new topic areas maintaining up-to-date subject knowledge, devise and write new curriculum materials 
    • To undertake pastoral duties such as taking the role and supporting learners on an individual basis through academic or personal difficulties 
    • To ensure that learners are adequately prepared, registered and presented for school-based continuous assessments and for National Examinations in accordance with the Kenya National Examinations Council regulations and syllabus 
    • To prepare a schedule for meeting remedial demands for all the learners who would need special academic attention and make weekly reports on the progress 
    • To ensure teaching and learning process is taking place in a well-organized, safe and nurturing environment 
    • To liaise with the teachers in planning and carrying out learning activities outside the classrooms 
    • To liaise with parents and teachers in addressing the identified academic, social and emotional needs of the learners you teach

    Output 8 – Accountability:

    • Be accountable for the effective and efficient running of the school to the stakeholders (learners, parents, staff, and the community) 
    • To create and develop a school where all stakeholders are accountable for the success of the school 
    • To present a coherent and accurate account of the school’s performance in a form appropriate to stakeholders 
    • To ensure parents and learners are well informed about the curriculum, attainment and progress of academic issues and contribution stakeholders make to achieve the school’s target for improvement 
    • To provide information about the work and performance of staff relevant to their job functions

    Education - Minimum:

    Operations Manager

    Responsibilities:

    Output 1 – Tactical management: 

    • Set facility-specific objectives in consultation with the Principal/Line Manager
    • Plan and obtain the resources necessary to enable implementation of objectives
    • Lead all subordinates within the Operations team to achieve set objectives
    • Measure and report on progress in accordance with defined reporting templates
    • Proactively identify performance shortcomings or risks and institute corrective measures
    • Regularly meet with Principals/Line Managers to report on facility-specific performance and give and receive feedback on relevant operations and tactical matters

     Output 2 – Maintenance management:

    •  Define the preventive maintenance for each facility in accordance with local and ADvTECH developed standards and maintenance lifecycle plans
    • Oversee the planning and implementation of preventive maintenance, whether insourced or outsourced
    • Expedite any foreseen delays specifically in preventative maintenance prescribed of Law and mitigation of health and safety risks
    • Where unplanned maintenance is required, to coordinate the planning, scheduling of resources and implementation to assure restoration of functions within shortest period
    • Where maintenance is performed assure that staff has required supervision, training, certification, health and safety understanding to perform the tasks

    Output 3 – Outsourced and contracted service provider management (applies to all services regardless of nature of service:

    •  Provide input into national/regional service specifications for those services to be outsourced
    • Facilitate and support procurement and contracting of new providers and transitioning/exit of existing providers
    • Measure service provider performance against contracted Service Level Agreements and reactively/proactively intervene to assure achievement of SLAs
    • Meet with Service Providers on a routine basis for proactive contract management
    • Report on Service Provider performance against SLAs and financial budgets

    Output 4 – Operational Efficiency related to all Facilities initiatives: 

    • Oversee the implementation of plans for all facilities within area of responsibility
    • Develop performance indicators based on appropriate benchmarks and monitor achievement
    • Lead and direct functional as well as site operations in accordance with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
    • Review current operating practices and processes across the Group and ensure alignment with best practice
    • Oversee the utilization of buildings and management of properties across the campus and ensure that standards are met, and any deviations addressed, timeously
    • Work with School Management to design and implement strategic operational vision and provide a execute plan
    • Identify opportunities for continuous service improvement

     Output 5 – Financial Management:

    •  Provide input to the annual budgeting process for the campus and for facility-specific budgets
    • Report on performance against budget, project future cost versus budget and advise on corrective measures where projections are exceeding budgets
    • Monitor the implementation of cost-effective measures to ensure that operational expenditure is contained within agreed budgets
    • Drive the completion of feasibility studies, including financial modelling for new campuses/ schools to mitigate risk and ensure the proper capex and operational expenditure to obtain signoff

     Output 6 – Stakeholder Management:

    •  Identify relevant stakeholders and build and manage relationships with them
    • Convene meetings with identified stakeholders to address specific needs
    • Manage customer complaints and escalate where applicable

    Output 7 – Health and Safety Management:

    •   Manage incidents by investigating the cause and providing solutions to keep a safe environment
    • Plan, coordinate and direct environmental health and safety activities and/or campaigns to raise awareness
    • Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements related to health and safety
    • Implement and/or maintain ADvTECH’s EHS management system
    • Conduct OHS contractors’ safety induction and file inspections before commencement of the project
    • Ensure business continuity and safety during execution of projects/building projects
    • Ensure that renovations or contractions deliverables are in line with contractual obligations

    Output 8 – Staff Management & Development:

    •  Agree on departmental service delivery turnaround time with internal customers
    • Ensure identification of critical skills essential for sustainability of service delivery and succession plans
    • Oversees the development of the training and development plan for the department
    • Lead and manage the the Operations team with the achievement of set objectives, targets and deliverables
    • Continuously provide feedback and coaching to direct reports to ensure optimal productivity and foster growth
    • Drive performance management across the team
    • Develop capability within the team to ensure continuity and build authentic succession plans

     Education & Professional Certification: 

    • Post matric qualification in project management, maintenance, or construction management and/or facilities management
    • Ideally a degree in project management, maintenance, or construction management and/or facilities management
