    Research Scientist III (Forest Measuration/Inventory)

     KEFRI 9
     
    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Participating in identification, conceptualization, formulation, development, designing, implementation and monitoring of multi-disciplinary research projects/programmes in Forest Mensuration/ Forest Inventory / Natural Resource Assessment;
    • Participating in implementation of the National Forest Monitoring System and KEFRI Strategic plan;
    • Participating in identification and adoption of digital data collection equipment in the Institute;
    • Participating in developing a database of experimental, temporary and Permanent Sample plots in the Institute; 
    • Participating in data collection, analysis and management in forest mensuration/ inventory;
    • Supervising and mentoring junior staff and students on attachment in Forest Resource Assessment;
    • Producing/publishing technical reports, extension materials, conference papers, and scientific papers in Forest Mensuration/Inventory;

    • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) minimum aggregate „C+‟ ( plus) or its equivalent qualification;
    • At least an Upper Second Honors in Bachelor of Science Degree  in Natural Resource Management with a major in forestry or its equivalent from a recognized institution;
    • MSc. Degree in Natural Resource Assessment/ Forest Biometrics or its equivalent from a recognized institution;
    • Should have written at least three (3)  technical reports/scientific papers;

    • Participating in implementation of the National Tree Seed Production, Certification and Distribution Strategy;

    ICT Officer

     Duties and Responsibilities

    • Preparing technical specifications for software development
    • Analyzing, designing, developing and maintaining software solutions and applications to address user requirements and their documentation; 
    • Providing advice  on development and implementation of ICT software as and when necessary;
    • Ensuring  developed systems adhere to ICT standards;
    • Evaluating and recommending the suitability of Information and Communication Technology systems and applications;
    • Reviewing and evaluating feasibility studies on the development and enhancement of existing software (current Forestry Research systems);

    Requirements for Appointment

    • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) of at least mean grade “C +” (C plus) or its equivalent qualification; 
    • Bachelor‟s Degree in BBIT/Computer Science/software engineering or equivalent from a recognized institution; 
    • At least six (6) years of relevant work experience in comparable institution;
    • Valid Membership to a relevant professional body (e.g. CSK, ISACA) in good standing;
    • Proper and practical understanding of the SDLC process;
    • Certification in one or more development language (C, C#, PHP, HTML, Java, PHP, Android programming etc.);
    • Knowledge in relational databases such as MySQL and Oracle;

    Human Resource Management Officer II

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • In charge of the salaries and payroll section;
    • Participating in the development, implementation and evaluation of strategic human resource management plans and budgets to provide input into the divisional  plans;
    • Ensuring the processing of salary adjustments on a monthly basis;
    • Ensuring processing of staff deductions on a monthly basis
    • Ensuring processing of  PAYE, NHIF, NSSF, Pension, and Cooperative and staff welfare statutory deductions;
    • Ensuring processing of below the line deductions (BTL); 
    • Ensuring maintenance of salary records;
    • Handling the Payroll module in the HRIS system;

    Human Resource Management Officer III

    a) Duties and Responsibilities

    • Coordinating the receipt, sorting, recording and distribution of mail, general correspondence and  mark documents and correspondence relating to human resource management to ensure smooth flow of operations; 
    • Participating in recruitment, appointment, placement and deployment of staff in the Institute to support the efficient running of operations;
    • Initiating pay change advise forms advising the accounts section on staff salary changes, transfers, appointments, promotions and increments for timely processing;
    • Maintaining and update the staff compliment to ensure records of the establishment are kept up to date;
    • Processing salaries, allowances, benefits and final dues; 
    • Preparing notes, make correspondences marked to them, enter and process data and write reports on matters relating to human resource administration to facilitate effective and efficient management of issues raised;
    • Participating in coordination of performance management by ensuring that the appraisal forms are sent out to the Heads for circulation for their timely return;
    • Handling employee health and well being matters for the Institute;
    • Interpreting service regulations, terms and conditions of service, human resource policies, procedures and practice and communicate to staff to ensure their implementation and observance;
    • Processing pension elements and other human resource administration matters for retirees and those proceeding on retirement for timely payments;
    • Updating the HR information systems data; and
    • Any other duty assigned from time to time.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Ensuring financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures;
    • Performing general accounting duties: collect revenue, process payments, monitor revenue collection and expenditures based on approved budgets;

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Operating switchboard for smooth flow of communication within and outside the Institute;
    • Maintaining call register for record purposes;
    • Maintaining and update institutional directory to enhance efficiency in communication;
    • Receiving visitors and directing them to the appropriate offices for good public relations;
    • Providing good customer care service;
    • Provides specification on procurement of telephone facilities to ensure the facilities are of good quality;
    • Oversee installation of telephone equipment to ensure all extension are correctly connected;
    • Answer and direct telephone calls to ensure smooth communication; 
    • Reporting promptly any switchboard defects to the supervisor;
