    Business Development Associate

    The Business Development team is responsible for taking the product to market and getting the best returns for our farmers’ hard work. We look at global and national trends to anticipate future demand and see where new opportunities may arise - be it in value-addition, processing, export or product diversification.

    About This Role

    The Business Development Associate will drive quantitative and qualitative market research to develop Komaza’s extensive wood market knowledge and strategy design. You will build and implement systems to understand the diversity of B2B and B2C customer segments, and translate your findings into compelling marketing materials to sell Komaza’s wood products directly to consumers and through retailers. You will be at the forefront of our business development efforts by becoming an expert in wood products and industry players in Kenya, as well as developing a deep understanding of our customers and how to sell them our products.

    What You Will Do

    • Design and lead broad quantitative and deep qualitative research to develop a comprehensive understanding of our wood products relative to substitutes and competitors’ products
    • Shape Komaza’s wood product marketing and sales strategies by providing data-driven recommendations to the leadership team  
    • Lead the design and implementation of systems to leverage quantitative data, analysis and modeling to distill empirically-tested recommendations
    • Design, create, test and continuously improve of our marketing materials to clearly convey our USP and different value propositions to B2B and B2C customers

    What You Have

    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Experience in sales, marketing, market research and business development a plus
    • Strong Excel and data skills; proven ability to organize and analyze quantitative market data to make market-related decisions such as price points and sales forecasts

    Business Operations Senior Associate

    Description

    About The Team

    Komaza is entering a phase of rapid growth and will soon expand into new geographies. To succeed, our business support teams must also rapidly increase their speed, scope and scale of work. We need to design, hire for, and build new service departments including Supply Chain (procurement & logistics), Fleet Management (for scores of motorbikes), Business Administration (facilities & property management) and IT (hundreds of computers and smartphones). Each service function will be led by a strong, experienced manager, each growing their team and systems to support rapid growth. Collectively, this group of business operations departments will grow from 15 to 40+ people over the next two years.

    About This Role

    The Business Operations (Biz Ops) Senior Associate will lead the development of systems and coordination of projects for our multiple shared services departments to support rapid company growth. You will connect the dots between all Biz Ops support functions and the functional end users at all levels across the core value chain and other support functions. The Biz Ops Senior Associate will collaborate closely with the Director of Business Operations to lay a scalable foundation for company-wide service excellence through simple yet robust tools, data structures, and operational systems.

    Data Systems Associate

    About The Team

    Field Ops is at the center of Komaza. We work directly with small-scale farmers: partnering with them, providing training, organizing them into groups, and supporting them to plant and grow high-value trees. Our design team focuses on creating the business systems that allow our geographically-dispersed Field Extension Network to plant and manage millions of trees with thousands of farmers.  

    About This Role

    Data is critical to everything Field Ops does - from where we plant, to how we manage farms, to when we harvest, to how we manage the performance of front-line staff.  The Field Operations Data Associate will leverage data to allow our large, decentralized field team to effectively serve thousands of farmers and grow millions of trees. You will also lead the design and execution of Komaza’s logistics systems to deliver millions of tree seedlings to thousands of farmers throughout Kenya.   

    What You Will Do

    • Design, build and continuously improve the farm and farmer data collection systems to support front-line, operational and strategic planning and decision-making
    • Manage processes and people to validate, store, analyze and report all farm and farmer data for tens of thousands of Komaza tree farms
    • Leverage GIS data and spatial analysis to make concise, evidence-based recommendations to the senior leadership team for key operational decisions
    • Liaise with the Technology Development team to design, pilot and scale mobile applications that support data collection and work planning with decentralized field operations teams
    • Develop the inventory management and logistics systems for delivering 2.5 million tree seedlings to rural farmers in coastal Kenya

    Nursery Data Systems Associate

    The Komaza Nursery team is responsible for scaling up production to growing and delivering a million seedlings in 2018 alone with exponential growth in the years following. In order to hit these ambitious targets, we are composed of eager, self-driven, and detail-oriented teammates – who care as much about strictly following protocols as we do about hitting our numbers. As the result of this hard work and rapid growth, we have become one of Kenya’s largest propagators of Eucalyptus seedlings, and the world’s largest and most successful Melia Volkensii nursery.

    About This Role

    Data is critical to managing the delicate seedling production process - from identifying the most effective production techniques to ensuring we hit our production targets in time for the rainy season. The Nursery Data Systems Associate will lead the development of systems to scale our Nursery operations to serve thousands of small-scale farmers with our unique microforestry model. You will also design and execute nursery logistics systems to produce millions of tree seedlings annually.

    What You Will Do

    • Design, build and continuously improve nursery data collection systems to support front-line, operational and strategic planning and decision-making
    • Manage processes and people to collect, validate, store, analyze and report all nursery operations-related data for millions of tree seedlings
    • Leverage data analysis to make concise, evidence-based recommendations to the senior leadership team for key operational and strategic decisions
