    Fundraising and Business Development Manager

    Job Description

    The Fundraising and Business Development Manager will be responsible for creating and implementing fundraising strategies, researching and identifying fundraising opportunities, submitting applications, maintaining a donor database, reporting to donors (individuals, corporations, foundations, etc) and running online fundraising campaigns.

    Job Purpose

    • Manage Book Bunk's fundraising efforts and corresponding activities
    • Develop business plans and sustainability roadmaps
    • Identify, research and onboard new grand and earned income sources

    Accountabilities: Fundraising

    • Researching, identifying and matching fundraising opportunities to organisational needs and communicating these to the marketing team
    • Preparing presentations and writing applications for grants; coordinating proposal submissions
    • Building relationships with targeted donors and partners
    • Managing Book Bunk’s crowdfunding and other fundraising campaigns
    • Working with the Digital Media Manager to create fundraising narratives and campaigns
    • Creating and managing a donor database
    • Reporting to donors on projects and managing donor relationships
    • Profiling and managing volunteers

    Accountabilities: Business Development

    • Develop a growth strategy focused both on financial gain and customer satisfaction
    • Conduct research to identify new publishing markets and customer needs
    • Arrange business meetings with prospective clients
    • Promote the company’s products/services addressing or predicting clients’ objectives
    • Build long-term relationships with new and existing partners

    Research and Inventory Manager

    Job details

    The Research and Inventory Manager is responsible for overseeing our public library restoration project's data planning, collection and delivery. You will ensure that Book Bunk secures both qualitative and quantitative input from library users, staff, patrons, partners and others on intended future use and other research points. You will also function as liaison between the Founding Partners and data collection teams/ partners while overseeing the process of recording the library’s full inventory (books, artefacts, artistic objects, furniture).

    Job Purpose

    • Assist with design and overall direction of research and inventory templates
    • Define Implement research objectives
    • Create content and stories from the research findings (data stories, human stories)
    • Develop innovative, interactive ways to present our findings to various publics.
    • Provide leadership to research interns from concept to delivery
    • Liaise with research partners

    Job Objective

    As Research and Inventory Manager, you will be responsible for the success and seamless operations of all research-related aspects. The focus of the research consultant will be to ensure the highest quality for all data gathering and delivery. We expect the research consultant to lead the overall data aspects of the project as well as its day-to-day management

    Accountabilities

    • Research and Inventory
      • Research and present creative methodologies to guide data-gathering design, using both quantitative and/or qualitative methods including;
      • Pilot and development work
      • Development and testing of theories
      • Document analysis

      • Interviews (face-to-face, telephone and online)
      • Liaise with Principals and library staff in planning research timelines
      • Design questionnaires and inventory recording systems
      • Recruit research and inventory interns to carry out fieldwork
      • Provide consistent research covering;
      • Library trends
      • Library content (both physical and digital)
      • Potential research/ content partners and funders
      • African audio content (poetry, short stories, novels) and its makers (contact, social media profiles and other information)
      • Ensure data collation in a manner consistent with internal and external M & E reporting
    • Data Gathering and Presentation
      • Gather information by directing and carrying out fieldwork
      • Plan logistics, schedules and prepare work plans/ briefs for interns, ensuring all plans are properly executed
      • Liaise with and direct research interns/ field interviewers on data gathering (survey distribution and collection, interviews)
      • Carry out information and data retrieval searches using electronic and other databases where applicable (i.e. on history of Library spaces)
      • Analyse and evaluate research and interpret data, making sure that key issues are identified
      • Prepare, present and disseminate results (as both verbal presentations and in written reports) in agreed templates and provide recommendations
    • Volunteer Management/Relations
      • Maintain select list of volunteers and interns suitable for the different facets of our work
      • Liaise with universities and other institutions of higher learning to develop a credit system to award successful graduates of the internship program.
      • Serve as Book Bunk’s point person for negotiating rates with interns and other short-term research staff
      • Promote positive relations between Book Bunk, research partners, and other collaborators by adhering to agreements and responding to requests
      • Keep all logs and human resource files related to part time staff.
    • Administration and Communications: Together with the Admin and Finance department,
      • Develop and monitor budgets for all research activities
      • Maintain appropriate cost controls while maintaining integrity and upholding agreements
      • Manage procurement of supplies, licenses, equipment, and services for operational purposes related to research activities
      • Maintain inventories of property and supplies, making periodic checks for reports to the Admin and Finance department

    Communications Manager

    The Communications Manager will be responsible for all forms of communications: digital life, newsletters, public relations, internal memos, partner emails, event communication and promotion, podcasts, digital installations. You will work closely with the Fundraising & Business Development Manager to ensure effective communication with different segments.

    Job Purpose

    • Develop communication guidelines and strategies.
    • Lead the implementation of these strategies.
    • Coordinate the timely development of visual material.
    • Manage all digital community platforms.
    • Manage donor and partner communications.
    • Manage interns, suppliers and content production partners.

    Accountabilities

    Social Media and Newsletter

    • Managing all Book Bunk social media pages including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn and others
    • Creating and running editorial calendars for all relevant platforms
    • Proposing and creating social media content plans and uploading approved content to the pages
    • Identifying current, suitable and on-brand trends, topics or platforms to expand Book Bunk’s online engagement.
    • Marketing and promoting Book Bunk products i.e. events, merchandise and content via social media
    • Engaging with and responding to the Book Bunk online community
    • Ensuring that all events are well documented ( film, photo, audio)

    Digital Campaigns

    • Creating and disseminating digital campaigns in appropriate formats and via relevant channels to ensure public understanding and engagement with Book
    • Bunk’s work in restoring Libraries
    • Collating, analyzing and quantifying responses to direct future campaigns
    • Working with the fundraising team to create compelling campaigns to inform and engage the public and transform goodwill into giving.
    • Generating historical content for events such as our Cultural Heritage Tours.

    Digital Maintenance

    • Monitoring all Book Bunk sites, platforms and newsletters, to ensure they are always active and accessible.
    • Working with the web & graphics design team to ensure a coherent/seamless visual and aesthetic experience on all platforms
    • Updating the brand narrative as needed on the Book Bunk website and social media pages
    • Monitoring site analytics

    Media Relations

    • Manage all incoming media requests
    • Generating regular press packs and overall press management

    Finance and Administration Manager

    Our Finance and Administration Manager will undertake administrative tasks, ensuring the rest of the staff has adequate support to work efficiently. The tasks include bookkeeping, supplier management, office management, mentoring interns and volunteers among.       • Record day to day financial transactions and complete the posting process
      • Verify that transactions are recorded in the correct ledgers
      • Generate weekly and monthly reports
      • Perform partial checks of the payment process
      • Complete payroll and all tax obligations
      • Enter data, maintain records and financial statements
      • Process accounts receivable/payable and handle payroll in a timely manner

    Programmes and Events Manager

    Our Programmes and Events Manager will conceptualise and coordinate project activities, manage internal and external events; manage schedules, arrange assignments and communicate progress to all team members.

    Job Purpose

    • Conceptualising Book Bunk’s non architectural events and programmes across three libraries (i.e book launches and readings, homework clubs, screenings, podcasts, etc)
    • Developing budgets and proposals for events and programmes that respond to our research findings
    • Breaking projects into doable tasks; developing timelines
    • Engagement with artists and other individuals who wish to use the library spaces as hubs
    • Creating and updating workflows; managing our events calendar

    Job Objective

    The Programmes and Event Manager will steer all teams, as and when needed, on behalf of the founding partners. She/he will be in charge of offline activities and the coordination of online activities with the Communications Manager to ensure alignment. This individual is an integral part of the team and will constantly engage with users across all three libraries.

    Accountabilities

    • Team and Community Management
      • Track relevant deliverables from research, digital, and design teams.
      • Ensure constant engagement with the communities in and around all three libraries.
      • Monitor project progress and alert management on potential issues and red flags
      • Act as the point of contact for all non architectural team members.
    • Event Management
      • Manage the call for applications from artists and individuals who wish to use the library for events.
      • Manage internal arts, academic and fundraising events. Monitor our events calendar
      • Coordinate the creation of content during events together with the communications manager
      • Solicit the partnerships needed to execute our events. Direct the creation of all proposals,budgets and presentations relevant to this department.
      • Submit event reports to all stakeholders.
    • Communications:
      • Provide event briefs and checklists to all teams prior to each engagement
      • Attend networking events as and when needed
      • Work collaboratively with internal and external teams to ensure administrative consistency across all channels
      • Manage hospitality at all Book Bunk events and other sessions.
