- Master’s degree Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Marine Engineering from a recognized institution or similar qualification from an accredited university/college with a strong technical background.
- First level university degree in the following fields: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Marine Engineering from a recognized institution or similar qualification with a strong technical background combined with the required work experience may be accepted in lieu of the Master’s degree.
Professional Qualifications:
- Professional qualification / certification as applicable.
- Ability to understand and administer ABS Classification guidelines, USCG and SOLAS and IMO requirements.
- Undertaken a Leadership/Management course from a recognized institution.
- Considerable knowledge in all areas of shipbuilding and repair, material handling, labor, safety and product related state and federal regulations and practices.
- Proficient in Computer aided applications.
Previous relevant work experience required:
- At least twelve (12) years’ working experience, five (5) years of which should be in a managerial position in the following areas:
- Shipyard/dockyard manager
- Technical experience in Maritime/Marine and Military Naval Systems.
- Experience in the management of shipyards and/or supervising ship maintenance, repair and overhaul at a managerial level. International experience in a similar role in an established shipyard will be an added advantage

- A first level university degree in any of the following fields from a recognized institution; Business Administration, Social Sciences, Economics, Finance, Engineering or Electronics combined with the required work experience may be accepted in lieu of the Master’s degree.
Professional Qualifications / Membership to professional bodies:
- Undertaken a Strategic Leadership/Management course from a recognized institution.
- Proficient knowledge of corporate governance, procurement laws, and current industry related issues and trends at national, regional, and international levels, including in-depth understanding of ship building in the global marketplace.
- Proficiency in Computer Applications.
Previous relevant work experience required:
- At least fifteen (15) years’ working experience, five (5) years of which should be in a managerial position in the following areas:
- Technical experience in Maritime/Marine and Military Naval Systems.
- Managing maritime large projects of not less than KSh 6 billion.
- Experience in the management of shipyards and/or directing ship construction at a managerial level.
- Experience in the Disciplined Services at managerial/senior command of at least 15 years is desirable
